Kirkuk is facing a tightening diesel shortage that has placed private electricity generators under heavy pressure. Generator owners say the official subsidized allocation covers only about half of their monthly operating needs.
The shortage has also affected public offices, where some generators have reportedly been switched off during periods of extreme summer heat. Owners say commercial diesel has become harder to find and more expensive, with a barrel of 220 liters rising sharply compared with recent months.
KirkukNow reported that generator owners have asked the local administration to increase fuel allocations and warned they may stop operating if no solution is reached. Local officials have linked the crisis to limited supply, production disruptions, and stricter checkpoint controls on fuel movement.
