Kirkuk bazaar shopkeepers reject eviction for redevelopment

Shop owners in the Majidiya Market rejected orders to vacate their premises for a redevelopment project, saying roughly 120 families depend on the businesses. The Kirkuk Investment Commission said agreements had been reached in 2023 and that affected tenants would receive replacement shops or compensation equal to four months’ rent. The dispute centers on livelihood protection, state property and redevelopment terms.
